LENT 3.10

There is a saying that goes “You are who you hang around.”

I heard this saying a lot growing up and now that I am an adult I can see how true this saying is. If you surround yourself with people who do bad things, whatever it may be, no matter how hard you try,

eventually you will end up doing those bad things. And vis versa, if you hang out with people

who do good things, you’ll end up doing good things.

But I think there is a difference between the person who surrounds himself with bad people and the person who surrounds himself with good people, and it is this: I believe the person who surrounds himself with bad people does not know who he really is.

You see it does not matter if you are a kid or an adult everyone wants to fit in. No one wants to be an outsider so we find people that we would fit in with. You may find people with similar beliefs or personalities, but if you do not know yourself you will probably try to fit in with the wrong crowd. It is important to know and remember that we are all God’s children. We are all made in His image. In Genesis 1:27 it says “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” And it goes on to say in verse 31 “And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.” (ESV)

You cannot know who you are until you know whose you are.

And there is a book that will tell you whose you are in every chapter and every page and every story. We are God’s people and that will never change. It does not matter your skin color, your gender, or what you have done in your past, you are God’s child and he loves you no matter what. Once you realize that, knowing who you are will come so easy, and when you know who you are you will live more confident than you ever have before.
