In the beginning...

David Waters

Our focus is on John chapter 1 versus 1-34.  “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning, through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.  In Him was life, and that life was the LIGHT of all mankind.  The LIGHT shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.”

Those verses are very similar to what we find in Genesis chapter 1 versus 1 through 5, “In the beginning, God created the heavens, and the Earth, and the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God SAID, let there be light and there was light and God saw that the light was good, and he separated light from the darkness and God called the light Day and the darkness Night. And there was evening and morning the first day.

What I find interesting is that it wasn’t until the fourth day that God created the sun, but there was already LIGHT! In Genesis 1:14-18 And God SAID, “let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times and days and years and let there be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on earth and it was so.  God made two great lights, the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night.”

And by the way he also made the stars!  You know I think about that, and I can’t help but think of God and Christ when I see the beauty in creation because it was all made through Christ. I realize how powerful words can be. God created everything through His words (and through His Word). Sometimes I use words a little too carelessly. I think I need to be a little more careful because every word is powerful. I also take a look at this John 1:4 “In Him was life and that life was the light of all mankind.” Perhaps this “light” was the light in Genesis 1:1-5?

God’s creation helps me keep in mind that God is in charge of everything, and I give him all my praise.

Such wonderful thoughts! They were so timely with everything that took place yesterday as well. God is good and working and has been from the very beginning.

Thank you for your thoughts, David. John 1 has always been one of my favorite chapters and is so beautiful in showing who Christ is and showing his "Godness."
