‘Cause all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God*
If you haven’t heard the song The Goodness of God, I encourage you to give it a listen. CeCe Winans’ rendition is amazing. You can hear it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sE5kEnitqE.
It’s one thing to sing “God is so good” or to say, “God is good all the time; all the time, God is good.” But it’s much more challenging to let these truths sink deeply into our hearts and become the foundation of how we live. Yet, that’s exactly what David invites us to do in Psalm 34.
Throughout this Psalm, David reflects on his life and recognizes how God cared for him—even during
incredibly difficult times. He invites us to experience this same truth: in both good times and bad, God is always present, always caring, always loving, always providing—always good.
So, how do we make this personal? How do we come to truly know God’s goodness in our own lives?
According to David, we taste. We step out in faith, putting both God and ourselves to the test. We trust, submit, surrender, follow, and commit to Him. We take that first step of making Him our refuge. And when we do, His goodness becomes unmistakable, surrounding us in every circumstance and apparent all around us. We see His goodness and faithfulness for ourselves.
Let’s dive in! Let’s take that step together! Let’s encourage each other to taste and see that the Lord is good. Let’s make Him our refuge, glorify His name, and share His goodness with others, inviting them to experience it along with us. God really is so good!
“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” Psalm 34:8
